Welcome to the Maryland Horse Council!

The Maryland Horse Council, Inc. (MHC) is a 501(c)(6) trade association that represents all segments of the Maryland horse industry, at the state and local level.  MHC has been representing the Maryland horse industry for over 35 years. 

Our core mission is to lobby state and local government for sensible and economically sound positions, and to provide educational and business networking resources for the Maryland horse community.  As part of its work, MHC participates in the Maryland Farm Bureau and the American Horse Council’s Coalition of State Horse Councils.

MHC’s trade publication is The Equiery, which provides the Maryland horse community with horse industry news, educational articles, photos, and profiles on horse businesses and horse people, as well as a service directory for businesses that serve the Maryland horse industry. 

MHC has ten standing committees:                                                                                                   

1. the Executive Committee;
2. the Government Relations Committee;
3. the Communications Committee;
4. the Membership Committee;
5. the Farm Stewardship Committee;
6. the Trails Stewardship Committee;
7. the Equine-Assisted Services Committee;
8. the Sport Horse Committee; 
9. the Business Networking Committeel; and
10. the Sponsorship Committee.

MHC is affiliated with a § 527 Political Action Committee that supports horse-friendly candidates for State and local offices.

MHC is also affiliated with The Maryland Horse Council Foundation, Inc. (“the Foundation”), a 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to the Maryland horse industry and to solidifying the strong ties between Maryland residents and the Maryland equine community.  MHC is the only voting member of the Foundation.
